Jacob Rees-Mogg has attracted a flurry of bets with leading bookmaker Coral over the last few days to be the next Conservative leader where he is 6-1 second-favourite to replace Theresa May as the gamble behind the North East Somerset MP continues to pick up pace. David Davis is the current 4-1 favourite in the market, while Phillip Hammond can be backed at 13-2.

“Although Jacob Rees-Mogg has played down any suggestion he could be a credible candidate to be the next Conservative leader, punters disagree as they continue to back him to replace Theresa May where he has only David Davis ahead of him in the latest betting following a momentous gamble,” said Coral’s John Hill.

**Next Conservative leader
4-1 David Davis, 6-1 Jacob Rees-Mogg, 13-2 Phillip Hammond, 8-1 Boris Johnson, Amber Rudd, 16-1 Ruth Davidson, Damian Green, 20-1 Bar
