ITV Racing: Harry Angel to cement reputation in Sprint Cup
Plenty of Swagger in Superior Mile
There’s a fantastic day’s racing on Saturday across the UK with nine live races on ITV from Haydock, Ascot, and Kempton.
The Sprint Cup at Haydock is the feature race of the day, with a big duel expected between July Cup winner, Harry Angel and Brando.
There’s also two Group Threes to look forward to, the September Stakes at Kempton and the Superior Mile Stakes at Haydock.
As ever, the Coral News team are on hand to give you some insightful pointers.
Bet of the Day
All eyes will turn to Haydock at 2:25 for the big race of the day, the Group One Sprint Cup Stakes.
Harry Angel runs here for the first time since his incredible July Cup Stakes win over the much-vaunted, Caravaggio.
This 3-year-old is one of the current gems of the Godolphin stable here in the UK and connections feel there’s much more to come.
His nearest challenger looks to be Brando, the five-year-old who finished third in that July Cup renewal.
Kevin Ryan’s Pivotal colt won the Group One LARC Prix Maurice de Gheest last month and should compete well.
Rain is forecast so expect soft ground. And that could pose a threat to this tip, but Harry Angel is Coral’s Bet of the Day.
Midterm fits the bit for September Stakes
This September Stakes renewal at Kempton looks an intriguingly open affair.
With just six runners, it’s Sir Michael Stoute’s Midterm that’s caught our eye.
While it’s true Ralph Beckett’s Chemical Charge has been in superb form, it’s Stoute’s four-year-old colt that has serious potential.
With an impressive win under his belt at Epsom just a couple of weeks ago, he should go very well again here.
Coral’s current price on him looks like value.
Superior Mile Swagger
Moving to Haydock, there’s a very open-looking Group Three Superior Mile Stakes to get stuck into.
Considering the heavy forecast expected, David Lanigan’s Mitchum Swagger looks an interesting bet in this renewal.
The five-year-old runs very well on soft ground and has previous form at this course, and in this race.
He was a close second last year to Hathal and could very well see victory this time out.
Tom Queally is a big fan of this horse and ran him to victory last month in Thirsk.
He’s on-board again here and will fancy their chances.
