Bet of the Day: Bulgaria to avoid defeat against the Netherlands
Published:
The Dutch are in a sorry state
World Cup Qualifying continues this evening as the Netherlands play host to Bulgaria in Group A.
The Dutch are in disarray. Dick Advocaat’s side sit fourth in the group and are in serious danger of missing out on a second major tournament in a row.
Thursday night’s embarrassing 4-0 defeat to France only compounded matters. And Bulgaria will know that they have every chance of taking a point or three from their hosts tonight.
As a result it’s the double chance market that makes appeal here. Coral go 12/5 on Bulgaria or Draw in the 5:00pm kick-off.
Don’t expect a goalfest
Fixtures between these two rarely produce a glut of goals. Games are usually settled by one or two goals and that trend looks set to continue. The Netherlands look toothless going forward and have been forced to recall a 34-year-old Robin van Persie to fill the void up-front.
Meanwhile, Bulgaria tend to keep it tight. Three of their last four games have seen fewer than four goals scored. Added to that the last six meetings between these two sides have seen under 3.5 goals land. It’s 4/7 for that scenario to unfold again.
Bulgaria to win outright
History isn’t on the Netherlands’ side in this fixture. The Dutch have a surprisingly poor recent record against their opponents. They lost the away fixture 2-0 and have only won one of their last five against Bulgaria.
With that in mind Bulgaria to win the game outright is a big 9/1. Given the Oranje’s recent tribulations they could struggle in front of an impatient home crowd.
