Arsenal, Tottenham & Liverpool keen on January move for Barca man

Brazilian could be set for Premier League move

The summer transfer window may have shut less than a week ago, but the Premier League’s heavyweights are already identifying potential January targets. One of those is Barcelona ace Rafinha, who has three English clubs chasing his signature.

The midfielder managed seven goals and five assists in 28 games for Blaugrana last term, putting in some impressive displays despite rotation and a flurry of injuries. That’s alerted the interest of Prem trio Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Liverpool.

However, with Barca boss Ernesto Valverde having spent big on fellow central-midfielder Paulinho this summer, game-time could prove harder to come by for Rafinha. That has opened the window for potential suitors to tempt the player away.

Coral News have taken a look at which of the interested parties would be the best fit for the Brazilian.

Arsenal

The Gunners face the prospect of losing Mesut Ozil next summer, if not sooner. A creative, ball-playing midfielder with an eye-for-goal should therefore be among Arsene Wenger’s priorities. Especially so with the club’s threat from midfield already weakened this summer by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s departure to Anfield.

Whether the 24-year-old would be willing to join a declining side who can’t offer him Champions League football at present is another matter…

Tottenham

While Mauricio Pochettino’s men have plenty of quality on the flanks and in attacking midfield, they lack a creative central midfielder. Nabil Bentaleb’s exit leaves the club with only the much-derided Moussa Sissoko and the solid-if-unspectacular Mousa Dembele available at present.

On paper, the tidy Rafinha would fit well behind the likes of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli, with his neat distribution, though the Brazilian lacks the physical presence of the club’s current centre-mid options.

Liverpool

The big question surrounding the Reds is the future of Philippe Coutinho. Barcelona are obviously very keen to add him to their ranks, as this summer proved – so it’s far from impossible we could see a part-exchange deal regarding these compatriots.

Jurgen Klopp certainly seems to be an admirer of Rafinha, and the player’s pace and eye for a clever pass would likely boost the Reds’ counter-attacking threat.

With that in mind, Coral News can see him being a success at any of the three clubs, though a switch to Anfield looks the most plausible, and perhaps sensible move for all parties.
