Crowley Calls It: “She looks a nice progressive filly”

The reigning Champion Jockey previews his rides on day two of Glorious Goodwood

2.25 Goodwood – Tamleek

He’s dropping down into handicap company after his run in the Derby trial where he was fourth. He has been a little disappointing so far this season. I don’t think he saw the distance out at Newbury in the Bahrain Trophy. He has the cheekpieces on here and we are hopeful for a good run. He’s a very nice horse, but things haven’t quite panned out for him like I thought they would. He should not mind any ease in the ground. We were a little concerned about Epsom and that’s why he missed the Derby. The right hand-track should suit him here, though.

3.35 Goodwood – Here Comes When

He’s thrown into the deep end a little here, so I would be more hopeful about him picking up a place. It would be hard for him to win, but there is a lot of prize money on offer. Ribchester looks like he has been very consistent this season, whereas Churchill didn’t run so well last time so he has to prove himself again. It is going to be a good race and if they are both on top form, it will be hard to call. It is a shot to nothing for us.

Here Comes When

4.10 Goodwood – Mushahadaat

He’s just had the one run so far, where he was second at Newbury when beaten by a nice horse from Richard Hannon’s yard. He is drawn 20 which is the standside, but it is the straight course so that won’t be a problem for him. I am hopeful of a good run.

4.45 Goodwood – Ebbesbourne

She looks a nice progressive filly. I have never ridden her before. Sir Michael Stoute does an excellent job with these type of fillies. I have had a look at her form and hopefully she can improve again so she has an obvious chance. You do need a little bit of luck from draw two but if you are on the best horse, you can enjoy working your way through. Goodwood can be a tough track to ride. It seems to suit the hold up horses but you do need a clear run though as you can’t afford to be held up on the rails.

5.50 Goodwood – Mr Bossy Boots

He has been off the track for a while but I have won on this horse before so I am looking forward to riding him again. They have saved him for this race as Amanda likes to have runners at Goodwood because it is her local track. I think he has a good each-way chance in the race.

8.25 Sandown – Flight Of Fantasy

I am flying up to Sandown for one ride in the evening. I don’t know a lot about this horse. I hope he is going to be worth it though. We obviously want to keep in touch with Silvestre in the Jockeys’ Championship. It is all about getting on a roll so I really want to keep the momentum going.

Jim Crowley

Jim Crowley began his flat racing career as an amateur before switching to National Hunt racing, where he landed approximately 300 winners. He then returned to the flat to ride for sister-in-law Amanda Perrett. After years of hard work, Jim was finally rewarded when we won the 2016 Stobart Flat Jockey Championship with an incredible 148 winners. That was followed by a lucrative retained partnership with leading owner Sheikh Hamdan al-Maktoum, for whom he is the no.1 jockey.
