Boxing to bikes: best ways to cheer a goal

Benfica won their fourth Portuguese top-flight title in-a-row, and we saw some football goal celebration  from fans and players, as you would expect. None more so than defender Eliseu, who was recorded driving a moped, rather erratically, around the team dressing room, all without a helmet and knee-pads.

Enough to give the club’s health and safety officer – if they’ve got one – nightmares. It did get us thinking though, what has happened to the big goal celebrations in British football? Have referees ruined our enjoyment? Where are the ‘why always me’ t-shirts and Robert Earnshaw somersaults?

To brighten up your day, and prove players do still share fans’ passion for the game, however well they hide it, we provide our five favourite goal celebrations. There are some top acts in there, we’re sure you’ll agree, but Stjarnan FC win first prize, their range is excellent…..
