Wesley Ward’s filly is primed and ready
Day three of the Ebor Festival at York sees one of the most anticipated clashes of the festival, with star sprinters Lady Aurelia and Battaash set to do battle in the Nunthorpe Stakes.
Friday’s action also sees fascinating match-ups in the City of York Stakes and the Lonsdale Cup, featuring long-distance duo Dartmouth and Thomas Hobson.

There’s no place else to start other than the Nunthorpe Stakes.
The 5f sprint has been won by some magnificent horses over the years, and Lady Aurelia should add her name to that illustrious list.
Wesley Ward’s three-year-old bolted up to win by 3l in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, and over 5f, has proved unbeatable thus far. Able to race on both good and soft ground, the filly is Coral’s Bet of the Day.
Can Thomas Hobson hold off Dartmouth?
While Dartmouth is stepping up in trip, Thomas Hobson is dropping down for this 2m56y long-distance dust-up.
Crucially however, the seven-year-old Hobson has managed this trip before, albeit over hurdles.
The Willie Mullins-trained runner has been in fine form this season and with a 3lb advantage over adversary Dartmouth, he looks a good bet to maintain his impressive form on the flat.
Suedois to shine
A narrow loser to Breton Rock over 7f at Glorious Goodwood last month, Suedois is backed to do the business in a 19-runner field for the City of York Stakes.
David O’Meara’s three-year-old finished ahead of the highly-fancied Limato that day to further prove his credentials. In what looks to be an easier looking field here, he should come out on top.
To further add weight to his claims, Daniel Tudhope will be in the saddle. The top jockey has a 32% strike-rate with three-year-olds on the turf this season.
