Leading bookmaker Coral can report last night’s clash between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor was a record-breaker in terms of turnover on a boxing match, with £100 million estimated to have been wagered on the fight worldwide. Despite the 1-4 favourite, Mayweather, coming out on top, it was a result favoured by the bookmakers who had huge liabilities on McGregor going into the contest.

Coral make McGregor odds-on at 10-11 to fight in boxing again following his professional debut, while Mayweather and McGregor are 5-1 to meet in a rematch.

“We feel like we have dodged a punch ourselves as a McGregor victory would have been a knockout blow for every bookmaker around the world,” said Coral’s John Hill.

“The appeal that McGregor has made this the biggest betting event in boxing history and we believe the Irishman could return to the boxing ring again before he retires,” added Hill.
