France and Austria fancied to progress to knockout stage

The UEFA Women’s European Championships have been nothing short of brilliant so far, with plenty of goals, controversial moments and massive shocks. We’re not expecting any shocks tonight though as France, Austria and Switzerland all aim to make it to the next round.

France to send Swiss packing

The French have made a slow start to their campaign. After dominating their opening match against Iceland, it took an 86th minute penalty from Eugenie Le Sommer to seal the three points, before having to come back from behind to draw 1-1 with Austria.

A draw (priced at 14/5) would be enough for Olivier Echouafni’s side to go through to the knockout phase, but finishing second could set up a massively competitive game against in-form England in the quarter-finals. You have to imagine the French would rather face Spain or Portugal.

It’s in their best interest to go for the win, so the 4/9 on offer looks an option for those looking to build an acca. In terms of a value single punt, France to win with a -1 handicap at 27/20 looks generous, given that a strong side is likely to be fielded.

The two nations have only met once previously in a friendly back in 2012. France won that 3-0 and if you fancy a repeat of that scoreline, you can jump on at a lovely 8/1.

Iceland could trouble Austria

Although they’ve nothing to play for other than pride, Iceland can still have a big say as to how Group C finishes. In their opening game against France, they were massively under the cosh and were only undone by a late penalty.

In their second game against Switzerland, they took the lead before eventually falling to a 2-1 defeat. They’ll make themselves difficult to breakdown against the Austrians and, without the quality that France possesses, that may see Freyr Alexandersson’s side grind out a well-deserved point. The draw is on offer at 19/10.

Austria have only scored two goals so far (one in each game) so if they keep up that ratio, we’re not going to see a goalfest in Rotterdam. If Dominik Thalhammer’s side are going to get the win, it’s likely to be by a narrow margin. Under 1.5 goals is tempting at 29/20, but Austria to win 1-0 at 9/2 looks better value.

France are still the 3/1 second-favourites to win Euro 2017 and after tonight’s games have concluded, we’ll have a better idea of who England are likely to face should they reach the quarter-finals.
