Citizens favourites to win the Premier League

It has been a fairly quiet summer so far, certainly by Manchester City’s standards. Does that mean manager Pep Guardiola thinks his team are close enough to a side capable of winning the title?

It’s fair to say the Spanish coach underperformed at the Etihad last season, and that’s saying something, considering they finished third in the Premier League, bagging a return to the Champions League. City were a full 15 points off Chelsea at the final count however and did, in fact, finish a lot closer to rivals Man Utd in sixth.

Our traders expect Manchester to dominate

The majority of transfer news coming out of the club so far has been surrounding players leaving, including goalkeepers Willy Caballero and Joe Hart, but bosses have laid the groundwork on a move for Tottenham defender Kyle Walker. Talks are said to be at a very early stage between the parties, with details of a fee still sketchy, but some red tops are reporting up to £50m will change hands to push that one over the line. Regardless, Coral traders are confident Pep and his side will improve on last season’s efforts, and have chalked Manchester City up as 7/4 favourites to win the league. Interestingly, Man Utd are next in line at 3/1, Chelsea back at 10/3, so our football guys are expecting much to change in the coming months.

Pep’s boys to end their FA Cup drought

Keeping that in mind, it’s no surprise to see City head the betting to win the FA Cup. Eliminated at the semi-final stage by Arsenal last term, despite scoring a perfectly good goal that should’ve counted, and probably would’ve seen them progress. Strikes from Monreal and Sanchez saw Arsenal sneak through in extra-time, and that would’ve hurt everyone connected with the Manchester club. Enough to see them go and prove a point by winning English football’s favourite cup competition in 2018? They’ve only won it five times in the past, and not since 2011, but are 5/1 to end that drought. If, like our traders, you expect a big year for Man City, the 12/1 about a league and cup double offers a real interest.

Money does buy you happiness

A Premier League title win would be nice, but the trophy bosses at the Etihad really want is the Champions League. It was the reason behind bringing Guardiola to the club, and the reason they have ploughed investment into the team. It has been proven time and again in football that money really does buy you happiness. There’s 11/1 available at them clinching Europe’s top prize. You may just have to be a little crazy, even for a dedicated fan, but if you fancy it, Coral are handing out 100/1 on a Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup treble. I’m sure that’s beyond even Pep’s wildest dreams – but never say never.
