Frampton brings the big fights back to Belfast

Carl Frampton makes his comeback, following a first career loss to Leo Santa Cruz, when taking on hard-hitting Mexican Andres Gutierrez on Saturday. This will be The Jackal’s first fight in Belfast since 2015, and fans are delighted to have him home.

The former world champion told followers he wanted to bright a big fight back to his home town, and that’s exactly what he has done here. Will Frampton get the desired result, and push himself back into the running for major titles, or will this gamble blow up in his face?

Carl to keep alive hopes of trilogy

Frampton lost his perfect record last time when edged out on points by Mexican Leo Santa Cruz at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas earlier this year. The British star dropped his WBA world title strap in the process, but the fight really couldn’t have been any closer, a majority decision the difference. One judge called the contest a draw, the other two gave it to Santa Cruz by nothing more than two rounds.

That would’ve been a tough pill to swallow for Carl, but it levelled the score up at 1-1, with the first fight between the pair also ending in a majority decision win, this time Frampton got the nod, one drawn card, four rounds and six rounds. That means we have to see a trilogy, fans want it, and we’re sure both fighters would love to settle the score. It would be great to have it in the UK too, as Frampton has twice travelled to America to put his title on the line.

Local favourite refuses to cut corners

Any third and, surely, final fight with Santa Cruz will depend on Carl coming through this bout, and convincingly too. The Brit must be credited for bringing an opponent of Andres Gutierrez’s ability over for this one. No one would’ve blamed him for picking up an easy win and getting back on track. Fans would’ve packed out the arena regardless of who was in the opposing corner, but cutting corners is not in the local hero’s nature.

He wanted a good fight, and a good fight he’ll get with Andres. Our traders have a home win nailed on at 1/25, ruling casual fight fans out of an interest in the fight betting, unless you fancy the upset at 10/1. Therefore, to get our share of the value, we must call how we think this one will end. Take a shot at the method of victory market and have Frampton to win by KO/TKO at 13/8. Gutierrez is tough, but he has had his share of weight issues in the past.
