Steffi Jones’ side need a win to qualify for knockout stage

It’s not been a vintage start for the Euro 2017 favourites, but Germany Women still have a win and draw under their belt in Group B and three more points will see them through to the next round.

Standing in their way this evening is Russia, who upset the odds to beat Italy in their first game and stand a chance of going through, if they can beat the reigning champions here.

Head to heads favour Germans

germany women team

Germany have won every game they’ve played against the Russians, with the latest of those being a comfortable 4-0 win in qualifying for this very tournament almost a year ago.

In fact, it’s never really ended well for Russia against Germany in any competitive match, with results such as 4-1, 7-1 and even 9-0 being recorded since 2003. As a result, that leaves Jones’ team the 1/12 on favourites to win the match – no sort of value at all.

Germany are expected to win this easily and keep a clean sheet, but some of the results in this competition have raised eyebrows already and if Russia attack from the off, they might be able to snatch a goal themselves. Germany to win and both teams to score (BTTS) could be the shout at 12/5.

New era for Die Nationalelf

silvia neid

Steffi Jones, who took over from German Women’s football legend Silvia Neid in 2016, is looking to win her first trophy as head coach in the Netherlands this summer, but so far it’s proving to be tougher than many thought.

They’re still the favourites to win the tournament, but their price has drifted after two below par efforts that, against better teams, may have seen them beaten. Perhaps the team are still adapating to life without Neid, only they will know.

That said, they really should have too much quality for this Russian side and those looking for a correct score punt could take Germany to win 4-1 at a decent looking 16/1. If you don’t think you can predict the score but think there will be goals, then our match special of Germany to win and 5 or more goals in the game could be the option for you at 9/4.
