Federer targets Wimbledon win over Cilic

Roger Federer and Marin Cilic go head-to-head on Centre Court on Sunday afternoon, live on BBC from 2.00pm. It has been a year of upsets, with just one of the sport’s top four players reaching the semi-final stage, injury putting an end to the chances of Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic.

Is there more drama ahead, or will this match go as expected, ending in a one-sided win for Roger Federer? Coral have the Swiss star as favourite. Bet on a range of markets, including match winner, set betting and handicap. Click here to mark the occasion with a winner.

Federer

Age is no barrier to success

If this year’s Wimbledon has taught us anything, it’s that age is no longer a deciding factor in sport at the top level. With birthdays comes vital experience. Venus Williams battled her way into the women’s final at 37-years-old, while Federer is on the cusp of greatness at 35.

In Sunday’s final the Swiss star targets a seventh Wimbledon title, 19th Grand Slam and second major trophy of the year. Not bad for a man in the autumn of his career, having already played his best tennis. Federer too old? Don’t even think it.

Federer – a sporting great

No man has won more Wimbledon titles in the competition’s long history, no man has won more consecutive titles here in the open era, and no man has been involved in more finals. Casual fans may take it for granted sometimes, but Federer is not only a tennis great, he is a sporting legend. The stats are certainly no fluke, the Basel-born star loves playing at SW19, and boy does it show.

He won the Australian Open earlier this year, beating rival Rafael Nadal in the final, but decided against going in search of a second French Open, sitting out of Roland Garros to ensure his body was in tip-top condition to play at Wimbledon. It was a gamble, but one that paid off, just as our traders said it would. The tennis team at Coral towers had him picked as favourite from the off. Good call.

Cilic

Cilic looking to go one better

Fed beat Berdych in the semis, getting the job done in straight sets. He is now a 1/5 shot to win the final, while another 3-0 cheer in the set betting is sure to be popular, and that’s the way our boys see it going, offering 6/5 on the whitewash. The match producing under 3.5 sets protects you against any shocks, with even money available.

2017 is a personal best for Marin Cilic, win or lose. He did come agonisingly close to beating Federer at Wimbledon in the quarter finals last year. Fed eventually won that match, but needed five sets to do it, and looked on his way out at one stage. Fans would love a repeat of the action we saw there, and over 4.5 sets is 3/1. Nice, but not quite as nice as the Cilic win at 7/2.
