Fans look set for an entertaining night
It’s fair to say ITV’s decision to make this bout PPV has ruffled a few feathers amongst dedicated followers of the fight game. For one, it’s not up to PPV standard, and for two, restricting who sees it isn’t doing Eubank Jr any good. Showcasing his talents to the wider audience would help build his fanbase. But, after all said and done, Audley Harrison was on PPV, so what do we know?
Getting over that, and there’s no doubt this will be an entertaining fight. Chris Eubank Jr ducks between the ropes with a CV showing 24 wins, 19 by knockout, against just one defeat. The spare in that run came against world champion Billy Joe Saunders in a 2014 grudge match, but the beaten man came out of the night with credit, having pushed hard towards a split decision against one of the most talented operators in the division.
Eubank has stopped each of his last six
Since then, Junior has steadied the ship, and in some style too, winning each of his six comeback bouts, picking up an interim WBA world title, British and then IBO world title in the process. What’s even more impressive is that each of those half-dozen wins have ended inside-the-distance. 27-year-old Eubank was last seen cutting down Australian Renold Quinlan in 10 rounds.
Another by KO/TKO for the Englishman can be backed at 2/1 through us and, going on recent form, that should prove to be a popular bet with casual fans looking for an interest. It’ll certainly go close to covering the cost of your PPV subscription. A points cheer is more likely at 8/11, while a home win is tight enough at 1/6.
Abraham boasts a wealth of experience
The fight betting would suggest Eubank is in with a punchbag here, but that’s not the case. German-based opponent Arthur Abraham has carved out a career spent at the very top of the game, beating the likes of Martin Murray and Paul Smith x2. By far the more experienced man, he is taking part in his 52nd professional contest on Saturday, and already shows 30 KOs from 46 wins.
At 37 years old, Abraham’s best boxing has been and gone, but he’s no mere opponent, and if Eubank allows himself to get over-confident, as he often does, the man in the opposing corner has more than enough power to take him out. We’re backing Eubank to box his way to a points cheer, but those after a value play can try the hard-hitting underdog to win at 4/1.
