John Gosden

Gosden’s filly heads the betting

This year’s renewal of the King George at Ascot is littered with group one talent, including Prince of Wales’s Stakes winner Highland Reel, Sheema Classic champion Jack Hobbs and Coral-Eclipse star Ulysses. Coral traders are happy to overlook those names however, pricing Enable as a convincing favourite going into the day.

John Gosden’s super star filly arrives with a CV showing four wins from five. The spare in that run was a place at Newbury back in April in a race won by Shutter Speed. She didn’t get the clearest of runs that day, and considering her form since, we’re more than happy to forgive her that hiccup. The jolly completed her hat-trick last time out, following a win at Chester with success in the English and Irish Oaks, at Epsom and Curragh respectively. She banked those two fillies’ group one contests with plenty to spare, and is expected to do the same here.

Dettori

Dettori’s presence sure to be popular

Enable gets 14lbs from her main rivals in the field, and that’ll be the difference on the day, as the team look to land a third group one on the bounce. Trainer John Gosden enjoys an impressive recent run in this race, boasting two of the last six winners, in Nathaniel and Taghrooda. The booking of Frankie Dettori is sure to make Enable a popular choice with casual punters, the Italian lifting this prize four times before, most recently in 2004.

In form Enable has been scratched up as a 5/4 favourite at the time of writing, with the market expecting another big effort. If you’d prefer to side with race from, last year’s winner Highland Reel will take some beating, and Aidan O’Brien’s hope is a real option at 10/3. O’Brien trained the winner 10 years ago, fans’ favourite Dylan Thomas.
