Pontefract gives racing followers hope

Tuesday’s schedule shows British and Irish horse racing meetings at Pontefract, Wolverhampton, Brighton, Uttoxeter and Roscommon, taking us from early afternoon through to late evening. Click here to back the winners.

With a week of high class racing ahead, we aim to boost your betting balance in the early exchanges, and have picked out a NAP of the day at Pontefract. Coral punters who enjoy playing multiples will find our popular race-by-race selections below. Choose your favourites and build a big price accumulator.

Battersea bets to score for Roger Varian are among Coral experts' Mallard Stakes tips alongside Wall Of Fire odds for the contest on day 3 of the St Leger Festival at Doncaster.

Time is right for Dawn of Hope

We get started at 2.10pm in West Yorkshire, and have gone with Collingham Park to get the ball rolling, but in terms of our NAP we’re waiting on the sidelines until the 3.10pm Pipalong Stakes. A one mile fillies listed race, Spirit Raiser banked the prize pot last year, and we’re with Dawn Of Hope to do the business this time.

In form trainer Roger Varian sends out this four-year-old filly, taking part in her forth run of the year so far. She got off the mark early in her career, winning at Ascot on her second start. Her only other success was at the same course, taking a fillies conditions stakes over today’s trip, beating Raaqy. That was last April, but she’s not got near winning since.

Mixing it in decent company

It is worth noting that the selection placed third at Doncaster earlier this year, but wasn’t beaten by much that day in what was a strong field. Last seen finishing in mid-division at Royal Ascot three weeks ago, it was encouraging to see her hold her own at that level, and connections will be confident she will come on for the experience.

NAP Dawn of Hope has been mixing it in better company than she faces here, and should use that to force a return to the winner’s enclosure. Plenty can be taken from the Royal Ascot performance, away from the bare result, and we’re excited to see if she can continue to impress against weaker opposition.
