Bet of the day: Sunday’s racing
The one to be on at Pontefract
There are certainly more glamorous meetings going ahead this weekend than the one at Pontefract, but there does seem plenty of good bets to be had at the West Yorkshire track, so that’s where the focus of our attention goes on Sunday.
We run through each leg, offering our selections designed to aid your multiples, while those who like to keep our NAPs close can follow below. We have found our fair share of winners this week and aim to further boost your betting balance here.
Gabrial the pick of Fahey’s trio
We get underway at 2.00pm with a novice stakes, and Sosian looks the winner of that, but in terms of our strongest play, we wait patiently for the main event, the Pomfret Stakes. A listed race, run over one mile six furlongs, there’s a chunky prize on offer to the winner, so we’re sure to see an honest battle.
Six runners are expected to post at 3.30pm, and Gabrial will be the one to carry our stake money. Trainer Richard Fahey holds a strong hand, sending in Another Touch, Home Cummins and Gabrial. It’s the latter who interests us most. A genuine all-rounder, the vastly experienced eight-year-old gelding seems happy running in any conditions, and has won two listed contests in the past.
NAP arrives on form
Hasn’t been seen in the winner’s enclosure for a while now, but he has been holding his own in decent company, ending runner-up in two of his last six, and finishing no higher than fourth during that time. Gabrial has been knocking on the door for a while now, and should finally get the rewards on Sunday.
Placed fourth in the group two Summer Mile at Ascot last time, he came out of that race with credit. Wasn’t disgraced in that sort of company, and goes into the day as the form horse of the field. If Gabrial can match up to his recent efforts, he should have more than enough about him to get the job done. We’re happy to take a chance.
