Battle of the neighbours at Euro 2017

As England take on Scotland and Spain clash with Portugal, we take a look at both games and offer some tips

Wednesday offers two fascinating match ups at the Women’s Euro 2017 tournament in the Netherlands, as England face the auld enemy Scotland and Spain take on geographical neighbours Portugal.

They’re sure to be two entertaining encounters, but did you know that Coral offer all kinds of markets for these games? Here, we preview each match and give you our best tips in the hope you can win some money while watching the action live.

Spain expected to cruise past Portugal

Looking at the odds on offer, Spain are clearly favoured for this match to a point where our traders are offering a whopping 33/1 for Portugal just to win. There’s absolutely no value in backing the Spanish at a rather tight 1/11 on, so we scoured the markets looking for alternate ways to make you some money on this clash.

The two nations were drawn in Group 2 together in qualifying for these finals and the last time they played, back in April 2016, the Spanish sailed to a comfortable 4-1 win. They scored a whopping 39 goals and conceded just 2 as they went on to win all eight qualifying games, so if you fancy Jorge Vilda’s team to run riot again this evening, over 3.5 match goals could be the play at 6/5.

The big guns have seriously failed to fire in this tournament so far though, with only one game producing over 2.5 goals and favourites Germany being held to a 0-0 stalemate with Sweden. If Spain follow suit and get off to a sluggish start, the 2/1 on offer for Portugal (+2 handicap) could be where the value lies. With four of the six games in the competition ending 1-0 so far, that looks to be the shrewd option.

Lionesses to roar on Euros bow

Mark Sampson’s side enter the tournament with a decent chance and should really qualify from this group, with Spain looking to be the only thorn in their side. They can’t afford to look that far ahead just yet though, as they face Scotland tonight.

England qualified for the finals in similarly facile fashion to Spain, winning seven and drawing one of their eight matches, conceding just one goal, and it’s that solid defence that should see them past neighbours Scotland.

Going off how the tournament has progressed so far, England to win 1-0 looks a likely outcome, however the 24/5 on offer for something so difficult to predict doesn’t represent much value. England really should win this game, but the tournament has lacked goals so far, so the 2/1 about England to Win and Under 2.5 goals in the match looks the best shout for this clash.

Scotland won’t roll over easily for their rivals and England won’t want to blow a gasket in the first game going all out. If the Lionesses get in front, their strong defence should see them through the game.

If you fancy doubling up our two top selections, Portugal (+2 Handicap) and England to Win & Under 2.5 goals pays a fantastic 8/1 with Coral!
