We ask our resident racing trader for his tips from Tuesday’s action

It’s finally here. Royal Ascot 2017. The pinnacle of flat turf racing. If you’re as excited about it as we are, you’ll have no doubt been spending far too much time looking at the cards and trying to pick out the horse, or horses, that are going to make you a fortune (you hope).

Well, at Coral, we’ve made things easy for you and asked our resident Racing Trader, Jason Ryan, for his top tips on the opening day of this illustrious meeting. Read on to find out what he’s tipping today and why…

Queen Anne Stakes (2.30)

Ribchester
While Ribchester is a worthy favourite and will prove hard to beat, I can’t help but feel OH THIS IS US is a big price at around 33/1. The Richard Hannon trained colt is improving all the time and while he needs to take another big step forward to get involved here, it’s definitely not beyond the realms of possibility that he does just that. He was unlucky in defeat at Epsom last time out and if continues on the upward curve that he’s currently on, 33/1 could look a big price after the race. Of the others, on quicker ground one would expect Lightning Spear to get closer to Ribchester than he did in the Lockinge, especially considering his run in the QEII where he gave today’s favourite 3lbs and was unlucky not to finish in front of him on less favoured ground.

Coventry Stakes (3.05)

Ken Condon might not be as familiar to you as the majority of trainers in this race but he has proved himself a decent talent in Ireland and in ROMANISED he holds a decent chance of his first Royal Ascot winner. He made a cracking start to his career at Navan where Shane Foley had to wait for a run but once he saw daylight, the son of Holy Roman Emperor quickened nicely to win a shade snugly at the line. The form of that race has worked out well and at around 14/1 he appears to have been overlooked by the market.
