Rumour reel: PSG want Aguero
French side ready to make their move
Southampton made headlines over the weekend, replacing manager Claude Puel with newbie Mauricio Pellegrino, the Argentinian given plenty of time to get his Saints ready for the new season.
Pellegrino led former side Alaves to the final of the Spanish Cup and a midtable finish in La Liga last term. Our rumour reel column keeps you up to speed on the latest news from the summer window…..
Free-spending PSG target Aguero
Paris St-Germain are expected to make a surprise bid for Manchester City scorer Sergio Aguero, with an offer of £60m to be slapped on the table. The English side have been making moves to strengthen their squad already this summer, and are unlikely to do business, but if the player sees his future in Ligue 1, The Citizens would have little choice. There have been whispers that Aguero and manager Pep Guardiola don’t exactly see eye-to-eye, with their working relationship said to be ‘difficult’. PSG will test that theory by increasing his £220,000-a-week wages.
Rooney must lower his demands
Tabloids tell us that Wayne Rooney is finding it tough to get a new club, and may be forced to sit it out at Manchester United until his contract expires, despite knowing he’ll play no part in Jose Mourinho’s side, as the manager aims to build a team for the future. It looked like Rooney would be on his way back to Everton, and that would make sense with Lukaku moving on, but reports suggest the England striker has priced himself out of a deal, with many Premier League clubs unwilling to meet the 31-year-old’s salary demands. Rooney rakes in £300,000-a-week at Old Trafford. Getting paid to train wouldn’t be the worst job in the world.
West Ham to iron out Iheanacho deal
West Ham are closing in on Man City wonderkid Kelechi Iheanacho, but current employers Man City seem to want their cake and eat it. The Sky Blues have West Ham and Leicester fighting over the 20-year-old Nigerian, and are using that to their advantage by insisting there’s a buy-back clause inserted into any deal. Details are sketchy at present – City probably still working it out for themselves – but figures of £25m to buy and £35m to buy-back are being thrown around by the red tops. London club West Ham already boast former City player Zabaleta in their ranks.
