Rumour reel: fight on for Mbappe

Who’s making headlines in the transfer news?

The summer transfer window doesn’t swing open until July 1st, not officially anyway, but that’s not stopped teams making major moves to beat the rush and secure their targets. There has been plenty for fans to talk about so far. We round up the latest transfer gossip…..

Mbappe a wanted man

Liverpool and Arsenal, along with just about every major European club, are said to be interested in the services of Monaco forward Kylian Mbappe. The English Premier League sides want to tie down football’s hottest property, but the Anfield lot had an £87m bid laughed out of town by his current employers. And who could blame them, with free-spending PSG said to be on the verge of submitting a world-record £119m for the wonderkid? The 18-year-old is believed to prefer a move to Arsene Wenger’s side – the board better get their hand in their pocket then.

Man Utd keeping busy

Jose Mourinho wants at least one new forward, but The Special One has been pushing on with a bid to sign Chelsea midfielder, and scorer of wonder goals, Nemanja Matic. The Blues are eager to free up some cash in order to fund their own assault on the market, with some big names connected to the Stamford Bridge side. Matic seems keen on playing his football at United, where’s he’d be a lot more likely to get a start. If all goes to plan, he’ll pass defender Matteo Darmian at the door, with the Italian desperate for a move to Juventus. There’s plenty for Jose to ponder in the coming weeks.

Spurs sizing up Meyer

Last season’s runners up Tottenham have sent the feelers out, with a move for Schalke attacker Max Meyer close, the promising 21-year-old believed to be valued at around £17m by the Bundesliga outfit. Meyer has represented Germany at every level from U15s to the senior squad, including a run in the Olympic team. The Londoners are also ready to have Kieran Trippier commit his future to the club, offering the England right-back a five-year contract. The 26-year-old, a fans’ favourite, would be fully deserving of it too, having forced his way into the team, but Man City are keen admirers, and could give the player another option.
