China now seems a non-starter
Wayne Rooney’s time at Manchester United looks to be running out and it is widely-believed that the England captain will finish the season under Jose Mourinho and pack his bags for the last time. There’s still plenty of goals in the 31-year-old however, and there will be no lack of competition for his signature.
So, what next for Wayne Rooney? It seems like yesterday he made the move from Everton to Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United for the big bucks, now he is deemed past his best and surplus to requirements – doesn’t that just make you feel old? Rooney could follow Becks
Will Coleen do a Posh Spice and fancy a move to America? It’s a real possibility, according to the early betting, and the record-breaking United striker is 3/1 at Coral to sign for any MLS club. It doesn’t seem likely however, as they have set roots in England and moving their family to America doesn’t seem something the Rooneys would be up for. You never know, and he would be in good company, with the likes of Gerrard and Lampard also turning their hand to soccer in the latter stages of their careers.
All the rage during the winter transfer window was Rooney’s bank-bursting move to the Chinese Super League. It didn’t quite materialise, not yet anyway, but the big players in that part of the world are expected to come sniffing back around in the better weather. Could Rooney be tempted? As with America, moving his kids abroad may put a line through that, probably more so than a shift to the US, but Rooney could play there himself for a year or two and earn crazy money. Diego Costa is expected to make the move in the summer, as the division raids Europe’s big clubs for Europe’s big players.
Roo welcome back at Goodison
Football fans may remember Rooney was close to signing for Newcastle United, before deciding on Old Trafford – and the rest is history. The Magpies are returning to the Premier League however, certainly have the financial clout to impress Rooney, and may fancy another crack at gaining his signature. Better late than never, and his presence in the dressing room would be valued in their first season back in the top-flight.
You don’t go back in football, it’s the number one rule, but is Rooney about to break that and re-sign for Everton? The Toffees look set to lose star striker Lukaku in the summer – they would get over that if they could tempt prodigal son Wayne Rooney to Goodison Park.
He was a graduate of the famed Everton academy, before seeing them rake in a fortune when moving to Man Utd 13-years ago. Could it finish where it all began? That certainly seems fitting, and it wouldn’t be too much of a move for the relatives either. If Rooney wants to stay in England, I’d say a return to The Toffees will feature highly on his list.
