Derby outsider 9-4 not to finish last as Paddy Pilley takes the ride

Investec Derby outsider Diore Lia is 9-4 with Coral not to finish last in Saturday’s Classic, and 1-3 to fill the final spot, after Paddy Pilley was confirmed as the rider of the 500-1 shot at today’s final declaration stage.  The filly is 50-1 to finish in the first ten.

“Rightly or wrongly, much of the focus in the build up to this year’s Investec Derby has been around Diore Lia, and since we went non-runner, no bet on Monday, the filly has become the biggest loser in the ante-post book, albeit at 500-1 it takes a very small amount to build up a significant liability,” said Coral’s David Stevens.

“We are sure to keep laying her as the race draws near, but as the odds highlight, she’s far more likely to trail the field home than cause the biggest Derby shock of all time, so we’re not having sleepless nights just yet,” added Stevens.

At the other end of the betting, Cracksman and Cliffs Of Moher are Coral’s 4-1 joint favourites, ahead of Eminent at 6-1.
