Controversial Epsom outsider builds up huge Derby liability

Despite appearing to have little or no chance of success in the race, controversial 500-1 Investec Derby outsider Diore Lia is by far the biggest loser in Coral’s book, with the liability set to increase further in the build up to the Epsom Classic.

“Rightly or wrongly, much of the focus in the build up to this year’s Investec Derby has been around Diore Lia, and although she looks to be completely out of her depth, in the great British tradition of getting behind the underdog, plenty of punters are backing Diore Lia,” said Coral’s David Stevens.

“At 500-1 it takes a very small amount to build up a significant liability very quickly, but since we went non-runner, no bet on Monday, the filly has become the biggest loser in the book, a position that will only increase in the build-up to the race,” added Stevens.

“However, although there is a big red number by her name in the book, in reality she has no chance, and we are far more interested in those towards the head of the betting, in particular likely favourite Cliffs Of Moher.  A victory for Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien in the highest turnover race of the Flat season would be particularly costly,” said Stevens.

Diore Lia is 9-4 with Coral not to finish last in Saturday’s Classic, and 1-3 to fill the final spot, and 50-1 to finish in the first ten, while Cliffs Of Moher is 11-10 to start favourite.
