Bookies set for £100 million betting bonanza this weekend

Ahead of what is set to be a fantastic weekend of sporting action, Britain’s bookmakers are bracing themselves for a £100 million betting bonanza. The biggest flat race of the year in the UK, the Derby, takes place at Epsom Downs tomorrow afternoon where £20 million is expected to be bet on the race alone, the majority of which has been placed on the Aidan O’Brien-trained Cliffs of Moher.

In Cardiff the Champions League features tomorrow night in which Spanish giants Real Madrid are the 5-6 favourites to lift the trophy. In tennis Andy Murray returns to action at Roland-Garros where, despite his lack of form, the British player has been well supported to lift the trophy in Paris and is 10-1 to go all the way. The British Lions play their opening tour match Down Under tomorrow morning and in cricket the ICC Champions Trophy continues in this country where England are the 5-2 favourites to win the tournament.

“This is set to be one of the biggest betting weekends of the year where as much as £100 million is going bet across the fantastic array is sporting events, including the Derby at Epsom where Cliffs of Moher is looking to continue Irish Trainer’s Aidan O’Brien’s fantastic record in the race and has been the best backed horse to do so,” said Coral’s John Hill.

“Andy Murray has not been in the kind of form that saw him win Wimbledon last year, however, that has not stopped patriotic punters backing the world number one to win the trophy in Paris, while in the Champions League final the bookmakers will be cheering on the Italian champions in Cardiff when they line up against Real Madrid,” added Hill
