Bet of the day: Wednesday’s racing

Followers take a crack at the all-weather

We suffered at the hands of a non-runner on Tuesday, but looking on the bright side, it kept our 100 per cent winning run going for the week. It’ll be all the sweeter if we can carry that through Wednesday, with an active day planned at Hamilton, Uttoxeter, Wolverhampton, Kempton, Ripon and Wexford.

It’s been a wet few days right across the UK, so we’re going to avoid the soft conditions and take a crack at the all-weather action at Wolverhampton, where an eight-race schedule gets started at 1.50pm. Probert booking adds confidence

I fancied a go on Makanah in the second before the prices were made available, but its odds-on favourite at opening show, so we’ll bypass that one and, instead, come down in support of Deeds Not Words in the 3.20pm handicap, decided over the punchy six furlongs.

Trainer Michael Wigham has enlisted the help of jockey David Probert here, and that does nothing but raise our hopes. The experienced selection arrives at track with confidence onside, having booked a return to the winner’s enclosure that had been coming for a while. A runner up at Nottingham last month was followed with an overdue win at Kempton over today’s trip a fortnight ago.

Selection capable of doing the double

Going off a 5/2 jolly that day, there wasn’t an awful lot in it at the finish, squeezing out Arctic Angel by a head. He held on for dear life, but it did prove to backers there was still a good bit of fight left in him, and he’s been given a chance to go and do something similar again here.

Probert has a reputation for getting favourites home in front, and we’re with him to do the same again. Deeds Not Words has been budged up in the weights slightly, but he doesn’t face an awful lot in terms of quality opposition here, making Coral’s 15/8 worth siding with.
