Bet of the day: Thursday’s racing
We’re after more winners at Newbury
Newbury grabs the attention of horse racing punters on Thursday, with an exciting eight races going from 1.30pm. There’s plenty to keep Coral customers busy throughout the day – click here to place your bets.
We returned to winning ways on Wednesday, with our NAP Ottonian doing the business at Haydock, further boosting recent profits. Aiming to build on that, we offer our ace on the drying Berkshire turf, while multiple backers can follow race-by-race selections towards the foot of this page. Why not try an accumulator?
Brimham Rocks on an upward curve
Being There looks a solid pick to get us off on the winning foot in the 1.30pm novice stakes, and we did toy with the idea of making William Buick’s hopeful our strongest bet of the day, but in the end, we decided to give that honour to Brimham Rocks in the penultimate leg.
A punchy handicap, won and lost over one mile four furlongs, Ralph Beckett’s hope is taken to land the prize money in the 4.50pm. The three-year-old gelding brings a CV boasting two wins from six, but with each of those victories coming in his last three outings, it’s plain to see this is a horse on an upward curve.
Won with plenty in hand last time
Finally getting his head in front at Wolverhampton on the all-weather in May, connections had him back out again quickly, and to good effect. He followed that effort at Wolves with a midtable finish around York, but bounced back last time, appearing in the winner’s enclosure at Haydock a week ago.
Going off as favourite that day, he destroyed the field, scooting up seven lengths ahead of nearest finisher Nordic Combined in second. A comfortable win, and performance that left followers convinced there was plenty more to come from Brimham Rocks.
He has been budged up in the weights as a result of that stunning performance, and will find the ground quicker here than it was last week, but those who saw the race will be eager to keep him close. 6lb rise, but I don’t think that’ll be quite enough to stunt his progress.
