Bet of the day: Sunday’s racing

We give a pick in every race at the Curragh

Action at the Curragh brightens up an otherwise slow Sunday afternoon of British and Irish horse racing, with the group three Ballyogan Stakes a real treat for punters.

A bumper prize pot has attracted a talented field, who sprint it out over the snappy six furlongs trip. Coral are betting on the main event, as well as every race at Curragh, Goodwood and Nottingham on Sunday. Click here to make your opinions count. Winners at the touch of a button.

Only Mine arrives on form

A seven-race card gets up and running with a six furlongs maiden, and we’re expecting Bachelor to go and claim that to get us off on the winning foot. You’ll find a selection in every leg at the foot of this page, but in terms of a NAP, our focus goes in the main event.

Only Mine is expected to be popular in the betting market on the day, and the in form four-year-old filly gets the nod from us. Joseph Murphy’s hope arrives at track having placed in each of her last two, following a third in the listed Cork Stakes on heavy ground with an impressive runner-up behind Gordon Lord Byron over track and trip.

Similar showing will be enough

That remains her only two outings of the year so far, but plenty of confidence can be taken from that last effort, beaten just 1 ½ lengths by a well-respected rival in group two company. Going at a big price that day, she threatened to pull off a bit of an upset when leading in the early stages. Eventually headed, there was no signs of the underdog going down without a fight, and she kept on to force the issue in the closing stages.

Connections were delighted by that showing, so much so they have her back out again just two weeks later. That quick turnaround must go as a positive for backers, and if she can give us anything near the effort shown in the Greenlands, followers will be onto a good thing. Only Mine boasts plenty of course experience, has fitness to burn and we’ll get a big run for our stake money.
