Bet of the day: Sunday’s racing
Selection in every race at Pontefract
UK and Irish horse racing fans are catered for on Sunday thanks to meetings at Hexham, Pontefract, Worcester and Gowran Park. We don’t see the glitz and glamour of Royal Ascot, of course, but there’s enough to keep us interested.
Picking Pontefract as the focus of our attention, we put forward our popular race-by-race selections, giving you a play in each of the seven legs, while our NAP of the day can also be found below. Click now to have your say.
Sound Bar shows plenty of promise
Racing gets underway at 2.00pm with a punchy fillies’ novice stakes, and we’re taking Procedure to open the show, but in terms of our strongest play on the card, we wait things out until 3.00pm. A handicap disputed over one mile two furlongs, six runners are marked in the programme, and of the field, Sound Bar is taken to come out on top.
The three-year-old gelding, prepped by Ralph Beckett and ridden by Richard Kingscote, goes in with a CV showing one win and a runner-up from four starts. That sole victory came at Newbury on his penultimate start late last year, beating Mathix in a maiden over a mile off a decent SP. He had been edged out a neck in the race before at Leicester, so the win would’ve come as little surprise.
NAP will come on for Doncaster spin
Sound Bar shook the rust off with a spin around Doncaster earlier this month, but got nowhere near the prize money. Despite ending nine of 12, the run would’ve done him the world of good, and we’re expecting the selection to pick things up again here and continue his promise.
He goes with some of the best form in the field, and if giving the kind of effort we know is in him, he’ll make a nuisance of himself at the business end of the race. We’re happy to take a shot and back him in the hope he’s in the mood.
