Five top picks from Tuesday’s friendlies

Gareth Southgate takes his England side to the Stade de France for the challenge of France on Tuesday evening, live on ITV from 8.00pm. With both sides suffering disappointing weekend results, this one will be friendly in name only – click here to bet on the match.

We preview the main event in a bit more detail on the football section of our site, but it also plays a part in our Tuesday accumulator, which we lay-out below. Five sides, all to win, which pays £207.90 for every £10 down. Prices and returns mentioned are correct at the time of going to publish. Let’s flick through the contenders.

France beat England

The Three Lions ended up lucky to get out of Hampden with a share of the spoils on Saturday, Leigh Griffiths scoring two late free-kicks to stun the visitors. It took an injury-time goal from Harry Kane to rescue a point, and spare Southgate’s blushes, but a draw looked to be a fair result, in what was a poor match, barring the final five minutes. Scotland are certainly no world beaters, even in Glasgow, and the way they matched England for large parts of the game would’ve worried the travelling support. They’ll face a tougher test against the might of France, who go looking to bounce back from a shock loss to Sweden on Saturday. On their own patch, Les Bleus are value at 20/23.

Chile beat Romania

Romania were well beaten by Poland on Saturday, going down 3-1 thanks to a stunning hat-trick from Lewandowski, two of the three coming from the penalty spot. They have managed just one win in six Group E matches, with that run showing two defeats in their last three starts. Chile’s fans have had more to shout about, and got a draw with Russia recently. They go in as the form side of the two, and we take a pop at 5/6.

Sweden beat Norway

Group C strugglers Norway won’t be going to Russia, and are already 14 points off leaders Germany, and nine behind Northern Ireland in second. They’ve had a tough time of it of late, losing two of their last three and four of six. Sweden sit top of Group A, and go in on the back of that stunning 2-1 win over France at the weekend, battling back from a goal down to stun Deschamps at co. Sweden are brimming with confidence, and are trusted at 7/5.

Colombia beat Cameroon

This will be the first meeting of these sides since 2012, but with Colombia winning their last game vs Cameroon by a 3-0 score, they are easy to follow on Tuesday. Colombia caught the eye when finishing 2-2 with Spain recently, stretching their recent unbeaten run to three games. Cameroon were beaten 2-1 by Guinea not too long ago, meaning La Tricolor merit an interest at 3/4.

South Africa beat Zambia

South Africa enjoy home advantage, and that should make the difference against a Zambia side on a horrible run of form. The travellers have lost four of their last six, including a 2-1 reverse to Tunisia earlier this year in the African Cup of Nations. Confidence is at an all-time low in the away dressing room, and we expect South Africa to do the business with a bit to spare. Coral traders are giving 4/9 on the home win, and that will pull its weight.
