O’Brien a master of Newmarket

Aidan O’Brien is a genius trainer and has sent many fantastic horses to flat racing HQ over the years. He has a particularly good record in this race too, saddling an impressive seven winners since 1998 – more than any other trainer.

The most recent of his wins was with Gleneagles back in 2015, who was partnered by top jockey Ryan Moore, and the dynamic duo are likely to team up again for Churchill’s crack at this 1 mile showpiece event.

Dangers in the field

Al Wukair is likely to attract some attention for trainer Andre Fabre, who hasn’t won this race since 1995 with Pennekamp. His French raider this year stands a decent chance, although he’s never raced in the UK and the strength of his Group 3 win at Maisons-Laffitte last time out is difficult to translate. He’s lightly raced and steps back up to a mile, so could be one to trouble the favourite.

One who is touted to make a significant impact in this race is Martyn Meade’s Eminent, who notched a course and distance win a couple of weeks ago, landing the Craven Stakes ahead of the re-opposing Rivet. Jim Crowley’s booked for the ride and had nothing but good things to say about the son of the mighty Frankel, so if he progresses for that run, he could be the main danger.

With all of that said, it’s still difficult to get away from Churchill winning this race. One of the most important things in horse racing is course form and the favourite has that in the form of a solid enough win in the Group 1 Dewhurst last October. There are some questions marks, he returns from a lengthy absence and steps up to 1 mile for the first time, but O’Brien’s been around the block and will have his colt primed for this race.

So, don’t miss out on this brilliant chance to back Churchill at a huge 33/1 to win the 2000 Guineas only with Coral!
