Does Kane’s future lie with Spurs?

Striker is attracting some big-time interest

Tottenham passed another major test in their season when beating an ambitious Everton side at White Hart Lane this month. The 3-2 victory – against an opponent on an impressive unbeaten run – was the London club’s 16th win of the season.

The three points gained meant that they finished the round in second-place, and are now 10-points off the pace set by strong favourites, and runaway leaders, Chelsea. It was another win for Spurs, and another created by the famous scoring boots of star striker Harry Kane.

A double over The Toffees, one either side of half-time, came hot on the heels of a hat-trick the week before against Sunderland in a 4-0 romp at the same venue. 23-year-old Kane is now on 19 goals for the season, which has him at the head of the top-flight scoring charts, one ahead of Lukaku. That form, especially the treble against The Black Cats, moved manager Mauricio Pochettino to join the rest of us and sing the Londoner’s praises.

One of the best strikers in the world

The Spurs gaffer went a step further however, calling his prize-asset one of the best strikers in the world at the minute – and there’s few that would argue against that, certainly not on recent form. It’s good for Spurs fans, and it’s just as promising for followers of the national team, as they aim to clamber their way back to the summit of world football.

With praise comes attention however. Will Spurs be able to hold on to one of the best strikers in the world? They had one of the most talented players on planet football before in Gareth Bale, but he was drawn by the bright lights of La Liga. Will hot-shot Kane be next?

It would show a lack of ambition by the Lilywhites if they were to let their man go in the summer, as there looks plenty more to come from him, but the club’s money men have already bent over backwards to keep him plying his trade in North London. Every man has a price however, and although the player himself is showing no desire to leave, he’ll know his worth and, as an ambitious young sportsman, will want to test himself in the biggest leagues in the world, against the biggest of names. If he finishes as the Premier League’s top scorer or not, he has already mastered English football.

No way Jose, keep your money

It’s no secret that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is on the look-out for a long-term replacement for Rooney and Ibrahimovic, with both nearing the end of their careers. Rooney certainly appears to have peaked and is sizing up a big-money move of his own to China. Rumours spread in the press in January that The Special One was eying an £80m move for Kane in the summer, with £150k a week contract in the pipeline. Of course, that’s mere paper talk at the moment, but it makes sense. United have the money to splash and Kane would be a natural long-term replacement for Rooney. Is Spurs to Man Utd still a jump up in grade? Perhaps not.

Said to be a Tottenham supporter as a kid, Harry previously put pen-to-paper in a bumper deal that will keep him at the club until 2022, with his wages hiked up accordingly. That was a bold move by the board, which surely would’ve shattered their strict pay structure, but if it nails down a proven England striker with the world at his feet, then it’s an investment. It’ll certainly go some way to scaring off the circling vultures.
