Bet of the day: Thursday’s racing
We pick out the ace at Redcar
Thursday’s UK and Irish horse racing schedule is made up of meetings at Lingfield, Redcar, Towcester, Sedgefield, Musselburgh and Clonmel, meaning there’s plenty to keep Coral punters busy throughout the afternoon and early evening.
Our best bet of the day on Wednesday, Blue Point, did as expected at Ascot, delighting followers, and we aim to build on that with our Thursday NAP, which lines up on the card at Redcar. You can bet on all Thursday’s horse racing, from across the country, here at Coral, or read on as we run through our pick of the day.
Our Little Pony off to a flyer
The 2.00pm selling stakes brings the curtain up on a competitive seven-race card, and you will find our winner in that contest, as well as every leg of the schedule, at the bottom of this page. In terms of a standout, we waste no time, going in heavy at the earliest opportunity.
Seven runners are expected to contest the prize money in that five-furlong opener, but Our Little Pony will take all the beating. Richard Fahey sends out his interesting two-year-old filly to make her debut. There’s not an awful lot in terms of form for punters to go on here, but some serious clues can be taken from the breeding.
Stick with what we know
Against a largely uninspiring field, the race looks there for the taking, and Fahey has booked the ride of Paul Hanagan, another plus point for followers. The popular trainer arrives on a hot streak, having won two of his last three attempts going in to the day, and the yard are renowned for getting debutants in winning shape.
There are a few ifs and buts here, but all we can do is stick to what we know. A bet on Our Little Pony gives us a shot at a filly with good breeding, representing an in-form yard, against a poor field and with a very capable pilot onboard. All that looks worth a go to get us off to a winning start, and Coral traders seem to be thinking along the same sort of lines, offering her as an 11/8 favourite.
