The best from across Europe

Football fixtures are becoming thin on the ground as we race towards the conclusion on the season. Major divisions in Europe will be downing tools this weekend, with the Premier League and Scottish Premiership wrapped up on Sunday.

There’s enough from across the continent to give accumulator backers a healthy interest on Friday however, and our football guys have trawled through the best of them to return with our punchy five-fold, priced at 15/1. Prices and returns are correct at the time of going to publish – let’s run over the main contenders…..

Falkirk beat Dundee United

Starting with the race for promotion to the Scottish Premiership, and the winner of this match will play second-bottom of the top-tier in another play-off. The bottom two places in the top division will be settled on Saturday, Hamilton and Inverness battling to avoid 12th. Falkirk and Dundee United couldn’t be separated at Tannadice in midweek, ending 2-2 on Wednesday. There’s plenty of life left in this one, but you’ve got to favour the home side, who finished higher in the league, and have played a game less than their opponents. The Bairns at 23/20 looks very generous indeed.

Espanyol beat Granada

It doesn’t take too much persuading to oppose Granda at the minute. The La Liga whipping boys sit rock-bottom of the division, having won just four matches all season. Things haven’t improved too much since Tony Adams took charge, certainly not in terms of results, with Nazaries losing each of their last seven. Espanyol are no great shakes themselves, but are battling for a top-eight finish. Take the away win at a useful 4/5.

Newcastle v Arsenal 4

Galatasaray beat Osmanlispor

Dipping our toe into the Turkish Super Lig, and The Lions haven’t had the greatest of seasons, not by their own high standards, with a third place finish the best fans could hope for, behind Besiktas and Istanbul. They did get the desired result last time however, while Osmanlispor go in off a three-match winless run, losing each of their last two. Home cheer does a job at 2/5.

St Pats beat Sligo

The first of two matches taken from the Irish Premier Division, a level of football that’s sure to see an increased level of attention over the coming weeks. Sligo have made a fairly miserable start to the season, and sit down in the lower half of the table, ninth after 13 games. -9 in the goal-difference tally will be the most worrying aspect for fans, and we take them on with a St Pats who have improvement in them. Home comforts should pay off, at 17/20.

Bray Wanderers beat Bohemians

Bray are going great guns up at the right end of the table, and will fancy their chances of finishing second this season behind runaway leaders Cork, but have plenty to do if they are to achieve that. Bohemians are on the slide, and there’s not a lot about the form that would encourage backers to trust them with their cash. We finish up with the home pick at 8/13.
