Curtain goes up on the flat season

The UK flat season gets started at Doncaster on Saturday, where an eight-race card is headlined by the Lincoln Handicap, due off at 3.35pm. Click here to place your bets on all the weekend’s horse racing, including the winner of the star attraction.

We offer up our views on a NAP and next best of the meeting, and if you skip to the bottom of this page you will also find a selection in every race, aimed at helping boost up your multiple bets, including accas and lucky 15s.

We start with the Lincoln Handicap, a one-mile contest that has attracted an intriguing 22-runner field. Of the bunch, Coral traders have Yuften priced as the most likely winner of the race, and those looking to follow the betting can have 4/1 on the Roger Charlton trained eye-catcher. The six-year-old has won only one of his last six however, the spare coming in the Balmoral Handicap at Ascot on his penultimate start.

Richard Hannon's Amlak is looking to improve on his second place finish last time out.

Hannon’s hopeful worth a go at a big price

He finished third in his only start of the year at Wolves in a warm-up for this contest last month however, and I’d be happier casting my eye down the pecking order in search of one at a bit of value. With double-figure odds in mind we take a chance on Oh This Is Us. Richard Hannon and Ryan Moore join forces on this promising four-year-old, who scored his last win around here, before going off for two rides at Meydan.

The selection has also won over today’s trip earlier in this career, and he returns to the UK having given a great account of himself in Meydan this year. Third there on his penultimate start, he could be noted as being a tad unlucky not to win the race, and the extra distance would’ve helped his chances there, it’ll certainly do him no harm on Saturday. Those looking to have a go can fill up on our 10/1.

Birchwood taken to get the show on the road

By the time the Lincoln Handicap goes to post we will be hoping to be targeting a double, with our next best lining up in the opener. William Buick rides for Richard Fahey on Birchwood, who last won at Chester in the summer. That was over seven-furlongs, but the drop back to six looks likely to shake him back to life.

The four-year-old is no stranger to winning, and already boasts a cheer at this venue a couple of years ago. He is capable of going on to bigger and better things however, and I fancy a result here to get us moving in the right direction again. Coral are trading 7/2 at the time of writing, and that’ll do a job.
