Wonderkid has been a sensation at Goodison

As a football fan it’s increasingly difficult not to be impressed by what’s going on at Everton this season. Boss Ronald Koeman has The Toffees firing on all cylinders, and they proved just how far they’ve come in recent years when being involved in a barnstorming five-goal thriller with Tottenham to open March.

Beaten 3-2 on the day, thanks in no small part to in-form striker Harry Kane, it was certainly no fluke, with big wins over Man City, Southampton and West Brom already banked this year. They now seem out of the running for the top-four, but if they can hold onto their better players in the summer, Champions League football is a very achievable goal next term.

Everton v Aston Villa - Barclays Premier League - Goodison Park

Lukaku seems to have it all

One player the board will be bending over backwards to lock down for next season is star striker Romelu Lukaku, but the Belgian wonderkid will not be without his admirers when the transfer window swings back open. At 23-years-old, 6ft 3inch tall, and possessing bags of pace, he looks the complete striker. Scoring goals has not been a problem for the Everton number 10 so far this season either.

After 28 games of Everton’s season, Lukaku leads the Premier League scoring charts on 19 goals. That’s joint-top with Tottenham’s Harry Kane, and with Spurs boss Pochettino labelling his man one of the best strikers in the world recently, didn’t that just shine a bright light on Lukaku too? He’s not a typical goal-poacher either, the former Chelsea and Anderlecht assassin boasts five assists, which is more than Kane, Ibrahomovic and Aguero. The latter hasn’t set-up a Premier League goal all season, which tells its own story.

Will Belgian Toffee score a big money move?

Lukaku has obviously impressed Coral traders too and we have him chalked up as 6/4 favourite to win the golden boot at the season’s conclusion. Chelsea’s want-away striker Diego Costa heads the chasing pack at 3/1, and blues fans may see that as a shade of value, with their attacker going out on a high, alongside a title win. Harry Kane rates as a 9/2 poke at present, but he seems set for a spell on the sidelines with another ankle injury.

It’ll be an interesting watch to see if Lukaku can fire himself to glory, and if Everton can hold onto him during the better weather. With Jose Mourinho searching Europe for a talented young striker, to lead the Red Devils when Rooney and Ibramovic move on, the answer may just be on his doorstep. Poaching Rooney from Everton in 2004 certainly did United no harm.
