Our best XI from the Premier League

The best of this weekend’s Premier League fixtures went on Sunday, and there was no lack of talking points as Manchester United jumped above Arsenal into fifth, while City and Liverpool battled out a entertaining 1-1 draw at the Etihad.

We have run through the results and picked out the star performers to create our Premier League team of the weekend. There was plenty of creative flair on show, making for a few tough decisions in the midfield. We set-up in the usual 4-3-3 formation, and you can let us know in the comments section below who you agree with, and who we’ve missed out…..

Goalkeeper: Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester City)

The son of a famous father has been in stunning form of late, behind everything good about The Foxes’ revival. He lost two goals at the London Stadium, but some of his saves were breath-taking.

Defender: Robert Huth (Leicester City)

Another from the born-again Leicester side and Huth put in a shift at the back, but also went up the other end to score early, finding himself unmarked in the box.

Defender: Gary Cahill (Chelsea)

Made a mistake to concede a penalty for Stoke’s equaliser, which is almost unforgivable, but we let him off as he went up and scored the match winner, his fourth league goal of the season.

Defender: Mamadou Sakho (Crystal Palace)

A regular in our team at the minute, and when he plays well, Palace win. They have pulled themselves free of the relegation zone with three wins on the spin, all without conceding. A reliable performer.

Defender: Craig Dawson (West Brom)

Craig Dawson was immense for The Baggies, standing up to Arsenal in defence, while scoring two goals at the other end to stick the boot into Arsene Wenger. Another tough day for Arsenal, but he didn’t care.

Midfielder: David Silva (Man City)

A number of contenders for a place this week, but Silva goes in based on consistency. He played a blinder on Sunday against Liverpool, and has been as consistent as you’d like from a big-name player. Distribution is unreal.

Midfielder: Mousa Dembele (Tottenham)

Rolled up his sleeves and did a shift. Set up the first goal and got stuck in to protect his defence when coming under the cosh in the second-half. A valuable player to have when things get rough.

Midfielder: Jesse Lingard (Man Utd)

Another big win for Man Utd, their second in a week. Lingard scored against Boro on Sunday, the second of the match, and that made a massive difference. His strike was one of real quality, and worth watching.

Forward: Willian (Chelsea)

The Blues attacker scored the first goal of the game with just 13-minutes on the clock, a cracking free-kick, and pulled the strings for the remainder of the day. A class operator and a game-changer.

Forward: Romelu Lukaku (Everton)

Put his on-going contract dispute behind him to light up another impressive showing for Everton. Scored two in a 4-0 win over Hull. We’ve said it before, but he really does have everything and I expect The Toffees to lose him.

Forward: Jamie Vardy (Leicester)

Another who played well on the weekend, scoring against West Ham, but he is also selected on consistency. In the Champions League and Premier League Vardy looks like his old self again. A real confidence player.
