Liverpool v Arsenal preview

Liverpool go into game 27 of their season on the back of a dreadful result, losing by a two-goal margin to a side down battling against relegation. Experts believe they don’t have a chance on Saturday when hosting Arsenal, but supporters of The Reds will remember only too well the same was true against The Gunner’s great rivals, Spurs.

Having lost 2-0 to Hull the start before, very few gave Klopp’s side the benefit of the doubt vs Tottenham, but that didn’t count for much come the first whistle, and a savage first-half double from Sadio Mane, on 16 and 18-minutes, stole the show, and the points. Mane has been priced at 6/1 by our traders to score the first goal of this one.

The Reds have been running riot this season.

High-scoring match expected

Goals should be the word of the day too, that’s if the head-to-head stats are to be trusted. Liverpool won with the odd-goal in seven when these sides last faced-off, in the reverse of this fixture back in August. Mane was again involved, hitting the net after Coutinho had bagged a double and Lallana played his part in a 4-3 cheer. The last time these rivals met at Anfield, well that wasn’t too quiet either, ending 3-3, Giroud hitting a double.

Followers of the stats will tell you that’s no fluke either, as the last 10 meetings gives an aggregate score of Liverpool 18 – 21 Arsenal. Armchair fans will be hoping this one falls into line and both teams to score is yours at 4/7. Short enough, but that’s understandable, given the form. One for your accumulators, perhaps.

If you are looking for a bit more bang for your buck, then it’s worth knowing that four of the last five have given us over 3.5 goals, and more of the same here is 17/10.

Wednesday Champions League tips November 23

Gunners low on confidence

Neither side go in with any real confidence, with Liverpool winning just one of their seven outings this year – three defeats and three draws – and they’ve been shunted out of the top-four as a result. There’s still plenty of football to be played however and on Saturday they face a Gunners side who are not without their critics themselves, having lost two of their last three, and a sixth loss of the season would see them trade places with their hosts, slipping to fifth.

That’s the same Arsenal who were thought to be the closest thing we had to a challenge for Chelsea not too long ago. Arsene Wenger’s misfiring side lost back-to-back against Watford and Chelsea, sticking a fork in any slim chances they had of pushing for the crown.

We should get plenty of entertainment here. Both need the win, both will fancy their chances at getting it too, but both have real weaknesses in defence. The traders appear to have Liverpool and Arsenal to score picked, but we can sneak in on The Reds win and both score at 10/3 with us.
