NAP on the card at Wolverhampton

Coral horse racing punters have UK and Irish meetings to solve at Taunton, Warwick, Chelmsford, Wolverhampton and Limerick on Thursday, and you can throw your hat into the ring and back the winners with us. Click now to have your say.

We are sticking with the allweather card at Wolves for our NAP and next best of the afternoon, with the schedule getting started at 2.10pm. Follow our thinking below, or if you are betting on the go, scroll to the bottom of this page where you will find a selection in every race, convenient for building your accas. Small stakes for big returns!

Jaywalker’s fighting spirit to shine through

We start with our ace of the day, which lines up in the third race on the card. A five-furlongs sprint handicap, the prize looks there for the taking, and we trust Jaywalker to spring an upset at a handy price. Rebecca Bastiman’s rep arrives with confidence, having won last time out around Newcastle in a contest that looks extremely similar to the one he faces today.

The six-year-old gelding saw off Captain Dion by a ½ length on that occasion, scoring off an impressive SP 8/1. He found himself in a race that day, but battled away to book his spot in the winner’s enclosure, and it was that fight that makes me think he’s worth siding with again. We will need to see further improvement if he’s to go in again, but he’ll be fit, sharp and ready for another push. Trading at 15/2 with Coral, that’s worth an interest.

Mercy Me improvement expected

We’ll be hoping to land a quick-fire double, with the next best going in the 3.45pm fillies handicap. A tight five-runner field contest, with one-mile one-furlong the trip ahead. This looks a tough one to call, but I do have Mercy Me marked down as the race winner.

The five-year-old has been seen knocking on the door of late, and found only one too good in her last start at Newcastle, beaten by odds-on shot Signe by little over a length. The selection was in control of that contest for large parts, before being headed near the finish, and connections will fancy their chances of improving a place on Thursday.

That last show was less than a week ago, and the fact they have her out again so quickly is an obvious plus for us. A similar effort to what we saw at Newcastle would see her bank the prize money, against a modest looking field. Our traders obviously think so too, marking the pick as 7/4 jolly.
