Big-time football continues to come at us thick and fast, and with the midweek Champions League results now in the books, we turn our attentions to Thursday’s Europa League ties.
Manchester United’s home clash with Rostov goes as the highlight of the night for British fans, with The Red Devils eager to go on and win the competition, securing their place in next season’s Champions League in the process. That would see them avoid the lottery of what is fast becoming a cut-throat battle for a top-four Premier League finish.

Man Utd to beat Rostov
United stumbled to a first leg 1-1 draw in the reverse of this fixture, when widely tipped to get their noses in front, but a score draw away from home is as good as a win in this competition, and The Red Devils will fancy their chances of getting into the next round.
Rostov’s pitch was a disgrace last time, ruling out any kind of passing football that day. Back on their own patch, in front of their own fans, and with a point to prove, we’re sticking with the locals at 1/4. The price is one for accumulators, but Mourinho and co will want to do a job following that hurtful defeat at Stamford Bridge last time.
Genk beat Gent
KRC Genk absolutely wiped the floor with Gent in the first leg, which came as a major surprise to punters, not least of all us. It looked a 50/50 on paper, but the tie is long since dead and buried, and the locals are through, barring any kind of disaster. They don’t have to win, but will want to impress in front of their own fans, and we’re not about to take them on at an appealing 27/20.
Roma beat Lyon
Game of the night in terms of quality, and Lyon swaggered to a 4-2 win last time. Things should be much tighter here, and I don’t think the Italians are out of this by any stretch of the imagination. Roma are currently second in Serie A, and they warmed up with a 3-0 win over Palermo. They’d love another of those. We take the home win at 8/11.
Ajax beat Copenhagen
There’s plenty of life left in this one too, with Copenhagen 2-1 ahead on aggregate. That away goal gives the locals every chance, and they must have a go, but can afford to take their time about it. Ajax are on an incredible unbeaten run domestically, and if they can carry that into this match, they’ll progress with minimal fuss. FC Twente were whacked 3-0 at the weekend, and the 4/5 on a home win gets my attention. It’s much bigger than I expected.
Anderlecht beat APOEL
Anderlecht are odds-on favourites, and so they should be. They are the better side, and proved it when nicking a 1-0 win when these sides last met. That cushion is enough to go through, mathematically, but they won’t want to rest on that. 8/15 does a turn.
