Everything worth knowing from first weekend in February

Punters barely had a moment to catch breath during the weekend’s sports action, as we were hit with a host of major events, including Chelsea vs Arsenal in the Premier League, the opening round of the Six Nations, and the latest chapter of the Chris Eubank Jnr story.

Below you will find our best of the weekend’s action in pictures…..

Football: Premier League

Chelsea end Arsenal’s title hopes with a thumping win at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea's Cesc Fabregas celebrates scoring his side's third goal of the game during the Premier League match at Stamford Bridge, London.

Premier League leaders Chelsea destroyed Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon in the live game, leaving The Gunners down in fourth-place behind Spurs and Man City. That’s got to hurt! To rub salt into the wounds, Cesc Fabregas scored The Blues’ third.

Rugby Union: Six Nations

Scots upset Irish at Murrayfield

Scotland's Gordon Reid celebrates after the RBS 6 Nations match at BT Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh.

The curtain went up on what promises to be the most entertaining Six Nations tournament yet, and what a start we got. Scotland, given no hope before the off, despite enjoying home advantage, put Ireland to the sword in the tightest of matches. 27-22 was the final-score, after a spirited second-half fight-back from the visitors.

Horse Racing: Tied Cottage Chase

Douvan shaping up nicely

Douvan ridden by Ruby Walsh jumps the last to win The BoyleSports Tied Cottage Steeplechase during BoyleSports Tied Cottage Chase Day at Punchestown Racecourse, Naas, County Kildare.

Willie Mullins’ super-star Douvan stretched his record to a perfect 13 with victory in the Tied Cottage Chase on Sunday. The win was expected, of course, but it was a pleasure to see such a great of the game in action and the Cheltenham Festival can’t come quick enough.
