Greatest sporting event in the world on Sunday

The final pairing has been decided for the greatest sporting event on the face of the planet – Super Bowl L1. New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons wage all-out war in Houston, Texas on Sunday evening, with armchair fans able to follow all the action live on BBC.

To mark the occasion, Coral have laid on a feast of betting opportunities to ensure everyone has an interest, from the loyal fan who has followed the season with us from the opening match right through to the climax, to the casual, inquisitive punter, eager to find out what all the fuss is about.

Patriots expected to win

In the money line – match winner to traditionalists – Patriots have been nailed on as favourites to claim the Vince Lombardi Trophy, and Coral traders have set-up in the New England camp, offering them at 8/13 to go on and scoop what would be their fifth championship.

Last winners in 2015, they beat the Seattle Seahawks on that occasion with a 28-24 score at the University of Phoenix Stadium, in front of a bumper crowd of over 70,000. This year they have proven their worth with some impressive wins on-route to the final, including the 36-17 demolition of the Pittsburgh Steelers last time.

There was little surprise to see Quarterback Tom Brady go as star man during that win and he has been influential throughout the Play-Offs, even returning from a lengthy ban to pick up where he left off. In Brady, and head coach Bill Belichick, the Patriots have a duo who know exactly what it takes to win Super Bowl titles, ensuring the team won’t get caught up in the occasion.

If you are convinced that the favourites can win the match, then backing them on the handicap at 10/11 with us looks a real play, and it seems a generous one too, with only three-points conceded. If you instead envisage a tight affair, Patriots can be had at 10/3 to win by between one and six points in the winning margin market.

Falcons Saints Football

Matt Ryan is on incredible form

Falcons show no fear

Atlanta have shaped as the plucky upstarts from the beginning, building everything off a fearless offense that their opponents have struggled to live with. That was certainly the case when taking apart the Green Bay Packers in their NFC Championship tussle, recording a hugely impressive 44-21 win.

The Falcons will come flying out of the traps again on Sunday and meet their opponents head-on, they know no other way to play this game. Quarterback Matt Ryan has enjoyed a stunning season so far, and showed his stomach for a battle when delivering another match-winning display against the Packers, throwing four touchdown passes and running in for another, showing he has plenty more to give on the big occasion.

The underdogs have never won the Super Bowl. They did get to the final back in 1998, losing 34-19 to the Denver Broncos, but there is no danger of them choking on the big occasion again. They leap off the page at 13/10 in the money line, or 10/11 when given a three-point head-start on the handicap.

This match looks to be one for the fans, and I’d play over 58.5 in the total points market if you didn’t want to come down on either side. It promises to be an attacking affair, with both eager to take control early on. Both bold in attack, it may boil down to a straight shoot-out and, if that is the case, you must have Tom Brady on your side. Matt Ryan is on an incredible run of form, but Brady has been there, seen it and done it all before. That experience should pay off.
