Grasp the thistle
Scotland got off to a flyer when upsetting the odds to beat Ireland at this venue on week one, and made a game of it over in France, for most of the day anyway, before collapsing down the home-straight. Les Bleus ended 22-16 winners on that occasion, but the Scots came out of it with plenty of credit and will fancy their chances of a 100 per cent home record. Wales were beaten by England in a bruising encounter, but they also take heart from their efforts, meaning we are in for a cracker. Home advantage should make the difference at 10/11.
Blues to upset Ireland
France will travel to Ireland looking to push on with their title challenge, after sneaking past Scotland last time. Another victory here would see them keep the pressure on England, and at least make them work for their defence. The locals start as betting favourites, which was probably to be expected, and set-up confident after crushing Italy last time, but we can’t get away from the slow start vs Scotland and Les Bleus must be given a chance at 9/4. That’s a big price in such a close contest.
Italy need to tighten
Italy fans have had little to shout about so far, which is nothing new to them, but they will be concerned with how their men have failed to be anywhere near competitive in their first two starts. Bottom of the pool, and on-course for another wooden spoon, they were crushed 63-10 by Ireland last week. England haven’t blown anyone away yet, that’s for sure, but they will look to put some big numbers on the board here. Coral traders are giving Italy a 42-point head-start on the handicap, and they are capable of staying within that.
