Bet of the day: Friday’s racing

Fishing for winners at Lingfield

The weekend has landed, and Coral punters have an action-packed Friday ahead, with the UK and Irish schedule made up of meetings at Warwick, Exeter, Lingfield, Wolverhampton and Dundalk.

Tigerfish to double up

We get started at 2.20pm for the first of six contests disputed on the polytrack of Lingfield. Mystikana looks the winner of the one-mile four-furlong handicap, but for our ace of the day, we wait until the penultimate race, where Tigerfish will take all the beating.

Seven-runners are expected to post for this snappy seven-furlong handicap, due off at 4.35pm, and two-year-old filly Tigerfish is the one for us. She was seen in winning form last time – something her rivals have yet to achieve – scoring over course and distance off a decent SP. Hitting the front going for home, she held off the challenge of Welsh Inlet, grinding out the result by a short-head.

She showed bags of bottle to bank the prize money that day and having already tasted that winning feeling, it sets her apart from this field. The NAP is a consistent sort, improving all the time, and I fully expect to see that continue on Friday.

The handicapper doesn’t appear to have been too nasty either, and Tigerfish has been given every chance to go to Lingfield and do the same again against an uninspiring field. Opening at 3/1, that’s something for Coral punters to sink their teeth into.

A steamy next best

Fiftyshadesofgrey goes in the race before, another seven-furlong handicap, expected at 4.00pm, and rates as our next best of the afternoon. George Baker’s five-year-old went in third at Kempton last time out, behind Intransigent and Joey’s Destiny, but there was very little in it, with the distances declared as a ½ length and a neck.

That was the best we have seen from him in a while now, and he will arrive fresh and raring to go following an easy time of it recently. Like before, the handicapper appears to be in a generous mood, and we look to take advantage. He opened at 13/2, and the price may appeal to each-way backers looking for that safety net.
