Alan Shearer blog: “They’ve had a blip which we knew would happen somewhere along the line”

Coral football ambassador Alan Shearer spoke exclusively to our very own John Hill ahead of an intriguing Premier League encounter between Leicester City and Chelsea.

In what is set to be an interesting clash involving the reigning champions Leicester and the current top-flight leaders Chelsea, Shearer provides his own thoughts on the imminent match-up at the King Power Stadium.

To hear what he had to say about the fixture, see the video below, but we have also picked out the best quotes from the Premier League’s all-time record goalscorer.

So read on to find out what Shearer had to say on all things Leicester City v Chelsea.

“Tottenham found a way to play them”

Diego Costa and Eden Hazard are major reasons why this Chelsea special to beat Spurs should come off.

Chelsea finally suffered a defeat at the hands of Tottenham, and Shearer thinks they need to win their clash with Leicester City to rediscover their confidence.

With Antonio Conte’s Blues having eventually tasted defeat after 13 straight Premier League victories, Shearer thinks this is a must-win game for them in order to restore confidence and regain momentum in their title pursuit.

“They’ve had a blip which we knew would happen somewhere along the line,” stated Shearer. “Tottenham found a way to play them and I’m pretty sure other teams will look at how they lined up against them.

“So Chelsea have now got to get back to winning [against Leicester City] and get their confidence back. I know they had a good result in the cup game, but they’ve got to get back to winnings ways.”

“It’s also a big game for Leicester”

Shearer also sees this as a huge test for Leicester, who have failed to continue last year’s heroics in the top tier, as they slip further down the standings.

“It’s also a big game for Leicester as they can’t afford to be dragged into a relegation battle,” continued Shearer.

“If Chelsea were to beat them this weekend and the teams in and around Leicester were to pick up points then the pressure would be right back on top of them. It’s a match I’m really looking forward to.”

Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer played his entire career at the top level of English football, winning the Premier League title with Blackburn in 1994-95. The following summer he signed for his hometown club, Newcastle United, for a then world record £15 million fee.

He ended his playing career with a record 260 Premier League goals, which still stands today. He also won 63 caps for England, including 34 as captain, and among his 30 international goals were five scored at Euro 96, a total that won him the Golden Boot at that tournament.

Now the chief pundit on Match Of The Day, Alan was one of the first two players inducted into the Premier League Hall Of Fame this year.
