Coral’s own John Hill sat down with brand ambassador Alan Shearer to talk about the other Northwest derby taking place this coming Sunday, as Everton and Manchester City get set to duel at Goodison Park.

Ronald Koeman is under pressure for the Toffees, but victory for Man City could keep them in the PL title hunt, so this clash between Merseyside and Manchester could prove crucial for both clubs.

See the exclusive video interview below for Shearer’s thoughts on Everton v Man City. While, we’ve also summed up some of the former England captain’s most insightful soundbites, so read on and find out his best quotes about this battle…

“That atmosphere and those fans at Goodison get behind you”

Both Everton coach Koeman and Sky Blues boss Pep Guardiola have shown signs of strain lately, so Alan first addressed the latter’s behaviour.

“It was a bit unusual for Pep to come out and be a bit grumpy with reporters and be a bit miserable, because a lot of the times Pep has been charming and smiling and happy,” said Shearer to Coral.

“They were back to normal ways in the FA Cup against West Ham [United], where they were absolutely superb. He asked for a response and Pep certainly got one, putting five past West Ham!

Koeman and Guardiola both spent part of their footballing education at Barcelona.

“So they’ll be looking to carry that form on…against Everton, who will make it very tough for them,” continued the all-time top Premier League scorer.

“Once that atmosphere and those fans at Goodison get behind you they create a great atmosphere.”

“It wouldn’t surprise me at all if they invested”

While, when questioned as to whether City were still in the title race, Shearer stated: “Absolutely, yeah.

“I think we all expected Chelsea would have a bit of a blip somewhere along the line…so it is up to the rest of the teams behind them to keep on putting pressure on them.

“But Everton will not make it easy for Manchester City,” added the former forward.

And, as for the January transfer window?

“It wouldn’t surprise me at all if they [City] invested, I know [Virgil] Van Dijk is being mentioned from Southampton, Southampton fans won’t thank me for that, but he’s been in very good form of late.”

Alan Shearer

Alan Shearer played his entire career at the top level of English football, winning the Premier League title with Blackburn in 1994-95. The following summer he signed for his hometown club, Newcastle United, for a then world record £15 million fee.

He ended his playing career with a record 260 Premier League goals, which still stands today. He also won 63 caps for England, including 34 as captain, and among his 30 international goals were five scored at Euro 96, a total that won him the Golden Boot at that tournament.

Now the chief pundit on Match Of The Day, Alan was one of the first two players inducted into the Premier League Hall Of Fame this year.
