Rumour Reel: Sunday’s look at the transfer news

Morata on the move

One of the main stories of the winter transfer window has been the destination of Real Madrid’s unsettled Alvaro Morata, who is said to be wanting a way out of the La Liga leaders, finding his game time severely limited under Zidane.

There has been no lack of potential suitors after his signature, with Chelsea, Arsenal and Juventus said to be at the front of the que. With the 24-year-old thought to be worth in the region of £50m at present, managers may prefer a game of chicken and wait this one out until the summer in order to drive the asking price down.

More on Rooney

The headlines love Wayne Rooney. Recently we saw his career over, due to a lack of form, being pushed into midfield, we then watched him bounce back to make history and become United’s greatest scorer, passing Bobby Charlton. Now he’s off chasing the fortunes of China.

This story popped its head up earlier in the month, but we have it doing the rounds again, with the 31-year-old hitman feeling uneasy about his future, with United zoning in on a move for hot-shot Antoine Griezmann. Nothing is expected on either until the summer.

Done deal – Snodgrass to West Ham

West Ham get their man

West Ham announced the signing of Robert Snodgrass over the weekend, paying £10.2m for the privilege. They beat off some stern competition in the process too, and fans will be hoping that the 29-year-old can add a bit more flair to the midfield.

Moving from Hull on a three-and-a-half-year deal, the Scotland cap announced himself as delighted to have won a move to such a massive club, with a great tradition. Snodgrass has rattled in seven league goals this season.

Gordon in safe hands

Perhaps the most bizarre story of the window – and that’s saying something at this time of year – has been Chelsea’s interest in Celtic and Scotland goalkeeper Craig Gordon.

The shot-stopper, would was without a club due to injury not too long ago, has revitalised his career at Celtic Park, but is still not a nailed down number one in Glasgow under Brendan Rodgers, although fans think he should be. Will he be moving to London? If not, The Blues are said to be interested in PSG’s Salvatore Sirigu, who has been seen playing his football at Sevilla of late.

No way Charlie

Charlie Adam’s rumoured move to Sunderland is a non-starter, according to the press. The Stoke midfielder appears to be on the wish-list of fellow countryman David Moyes, but current employers Stoke appear to have squashed any potential move, saying their man is going nowhere.

Fenerbahce have also been linked during the January transfer window, but it’s unlikely the former Liverpool and Rangers set-piece king would welcome a move abroad at this point in his career. Mark Hughes rates him highly in his plans going forwards.
