We check out the latest news and gossip

Going into the final full week of January and things are beginning to get serious in the winter transfer window. Teams must now turn gossip into signings and interest into hard cash, if they want to get their intended targets.

Done deal

Southampton are struggling for form this season and they have now lost their captain Jose Fonte to rivals West Ham United, which caught many by surprise.

The 33-year-old defender is said to have attracted a sum of £8 million to move to Stratford, which must go down as a good piece of business, at least in the short-term. With a two-and-a-half-year contract signed, and the option of a further year, it looks like Fonte will finish his career at West Ham.

Costa story rumbles on

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte told blues fans that star-striker Diego Costa is to remain at Stamford Bridge, at least for now. The attacker has made it known that he wants a big-money move away from the league leaders, with China looking to be a real option.

Abramovich spoke to the player and it now looks like any move has been put on ice until at least the summer, with Chelsea pulling together to get over the line and claim what would be a historic league win.

Everton lose Deulofeu

Things look to be going well at Everton this season, and confidence is sky-high at Goodison Park following the hammering of Manchester City, but one man they can obviously do without is Spaniard Gerard Deulofeu.

Manager Ronald Koeman has allowed the player, who hasn’t had much of an impact at Everton so far this season, to move to Italian giants Inter Milan on-loan until the end of the season. It’s shaping up to be a competitive Serie A this term and Deulofeu will be eager to play his part.

What are Shearer's thoughts on Rooney?

Could Rooney be off to China?

Rooney on the move

Now, we can file this one firmly in the gossip column, but several newspaper reports suggest this morning that Wayne Rooney is on the verge of being offered £1 million a week to play his football in China.

It’s no secret that teams in that part of the world are splashing the cash, and, now that he has broken Bobby Charlton’s record, United fans would no doubt give the England star their backing. It’s still said to be in the early stages, but would be a bit of a shock if it were to be true.

Dele Alli attracting attention

Spurs midfielder Dele Alli has been a revelation this season in his side’s push for the Premier League title, but form like his doesn’t go unnoticed at the top end of the game and the 20-year-old midfielder is attracting the attention of Europe’s biggest names.

Real Madrid are the latest super-power to be linked with a move, with newspaper reports suggesting the Spanish giants are ready to eclipse any offer for the Tottenham young-gun in a bid to bring him to La Liga. It makes sense, but regulars at White Hart Lane will be hoping to keep him until, at least, the summer.
