DeGale’s American dream to continue

30-year-old Londoner James DeGale makes the third defence of his IBF world super-middleweight title when facing Badou Jack, with the added incentive of naming the WBC strap in his clutch of awards.

The talented southpaw has lost just one of a 24-fight career, with that negative coming against George Groves in a pulsating derby at the 02 Arena back in 2011. The 2008 Olympic gold medallist bounced back to win his next 13 bouts, including a career best points verdict over Andre Dirrell in Boston which saw him crowned world champion for the first time.

Two of DeGale’s last three contests have been fought-out on American soil, with the spare in Canada, proving that boxing out of the away corner will be no problem. The fact that each of those wins have come on the scorecards, is further evidence that he has little issue winning favour with foreign judges.

Opponent Badou Jack arrives for this test having failed to win three of his 23 starts, including a draw with 36-year-old Lucian Bute last time out. Bearing in mind DeGale brushed aside the same opponent with relative ease little over a year ago, that form could prove telling.
