Native River an industry wide gamble for Cheltenham Gold Cup

Native River was the subject of a significant ante post gamble across the betting industry this morning for the Cheltenham Gold Cup with Coral cutting his odds to 6/1 from 8/1 in the face of some sizeable bets on the big race second favourite.

Alary, trained like Native River and Gold Cup favourite, Thistlecrack, by Colin Tizzard, also attracted some ante post support and Coral clipped him to 25/1 from 33/1.

The market moves for these two horses coincided with the news that 12/1 chance, Coneygree will miss the race.

“The gamble on Native River appears to have been sparked by the confirmation that Coneygree will miss the Gold Cup, and the Coral Welsh Grand National and Hennessy Gold Cup winner, is now the standout alternative in the market to the short price favourite, Thistlecrack, particularly if the ground comes up soft” said Simon Clare, Coral Spokesman.

“Many of the other horses prominent in the Gold Cup betting are by no means certain to run in the race, the likes of Djakadam and Cue Card may run in the Ryanair while Don Cossack is coming back from injury, whereas both Native River and the unexposed Alary who was also backed this morning, are fit, well and confirmed as on target for the race”, added Clare.
